Add more to Moyer’s HR record, as Phillies fall to Braves 7-5
Martin Prado and Brian McCann both added more to Moyer’s HR record last night. Moyer has now given up 509 HR in his career, but the biggest stat of the night was that the Braves now have a 3 game lead in the NL East.
Martin Prado started the game off with a leadoff HR. The Phillies then answered back in the bottom of the second off of a J-Roll double that knocked in Wilson Valdez and a 2 run homer from Howard in the fifth. Moyer appeared to be in a nice groove after that leadoff HR, until Prado again hit another HR. Then the aging Moyer started to fall apart. Brian McCann hit a double to deep center, three runs scored. Then came number 509 when Matt Diaz hit a 2 run HR to center. Baez came in and retired the next 3 batters. Phillies did show some resiliance. In the seventh Victorino homered, that knocked Medlen out of the game, then Ben Francisco had a Pinch Hit RBI in the 8th inning. Wagner came in for the save in the ninth and reitred the side in order. Final score, Braves 7 Phillies 5.
Phillies are now 6 games behind the Braves in the NL East. Their last series before the all star break is against the Reds. Kyle Kendrik is going to get the start tomorrow. He is 5-3 with a 4.70 ERA. Kyle pitched a CG his last start, allowing three earned on ten hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts. Johnny Cueto will be pitching for the Reds. Cueto is 8-2 with a 3.56 ERA. In his last start he went 5 innings, without giving up a run on 7 hits and 5 walks with only 2 Ks.
Question: Phillies are struggling and there are plenty of trade talks involving the Phils. My question is what trades do you think the Phillies will make or should make? Do they trade Werth Or Ibanez? Brown seems to be ready. What do you think the Phillies need pitching, another bat?
